Putting Myself in Your Shoes — My Branding Session with Jennifer Moher

Everybody has a reason to be photographed. Mine was that I wanted to have great photos of me for my website that were a true reflection of who I am and what I want the world to see. But, I can confirm that it’s much easier for photographers to be on the other side of the camera than in front of the lens. That means I know first hand how you feel when I photograph you. And it’s my goal to help you have the best possible experience in front of my lens.

Choosing the right photographer when you are also a photographer is a fun challenge because we all have amassed an amazing group of very talented photographer friends. There was a lot of thought put into who I chose for my branding session. Jennifer Moher is a friend and an inspiration. I knew the fact that we are friends meant she would help me calm my nerves. The inspiration came in her incredible shooting style and her gorgeous aesthetic that was a dream come true for me.

The day started at the Iron Kettle Bed and Breakfast and moved onto the Colchester Beach and Harbour pier, both locations I love. We started with hair and makeup and then spent hours choosing outfits that would truly represent the real me. But, I’ll be honest, I knew that if I didn’t feel comfortable in what I was wearing, my nervousness would show in the photos.

The room got crowded quickly since I invited my friend Dea and her kids, which became a bit overwhelming for me as the day progressed. When they left, Jenn put on some relaxing music and we continued to pick outfits. She shifted the tone with the right touches, reassuring me that everything was good. Her mad DJing skills were in full bloom as she chose songs to match the mood.

Those personalized moments really helped me feel comfortable in my own skin. The true me came out the more comfortable she made me. At that moment, I forgot about the clothes, hair, and makeup, I was just there and truly present.

It was a spectacular day. I absolutely love the photos. Jen captured the real me. But, more than that, she gave me the beautiful gift of her committed and caring attention, which was the secret ingredient in the photos.

The entire experience taught me how I want my clients to feel at our sessions. The attention to detail, gentle curating of the experience, and truly personalized touches create a calm space for you to be your true best self for me to capture from my side of the camera. That’s the real you that we want to share with the world.
